Varsouviana
The 64-foot (two-masted) ketch Varsouviana is the primary program boat for Access to Sailing outings. Many hospital patients, inner city kids and others in need have found inspiration and hope on her deck. She's big enough to provide safety and stability for large groups. And she's a good size for guests to learn the handling of lines, sails and winches.
Varsouviana is a classic beauty and we're proud of her. That's her on the top menu, and as you can see she holds a lot of people. About 30 comfortably without wheelchairs. About 15 patients in wheelchairs. The two photos at right show clearly that Varsouviana shines day or night, even with the Queen Mary as a backdrop.
While many vessels come and go to pay for the programs expenses, Varsouviana stays. We're currently doing winter maintenance on her, including new paint, varnish and NEW SAILS! She'll be shiny and ready for the spring sailing season. Come take a look at our progress. She's parked at the long dock, about 100 yards west of the Yardhouse restaurant in Long Beach.

Zij Naplno
Okay, we know the name is a bit unusual. It may be changed, but it really sounds pretty when you say it right. Pronounced (jee nah pul-no), this beautiful 54-foot ketch's name is Czech for "Live to the fullest."
Zij Naplno was donated to ATS last year, and has recently been renovated inside and out. Her gleaming white hull can now be seen parked on the long dock right behind Varsouviana.
In addition to program outings, she'll be used for fundrainsing events. |
